SCAD Museum of Art presents "Sedimental," one of two exhibitions on display by critically acclaimed artist Tom Burr. In his spare, enigmatic mixed-media sculptures and installations, Burr explores the ways in which we embed our memories and emotions in the spaces and objects that surround us, such as clothing and furniture.
He makes memories tangible through a focused spectrum of domestic materials and found objects, including old blankets and T-shirts, doors, books, equestrian paraphernalia and bits of hardware. Stories of culturally iconic figureheads are his points of departure, and Burr reflects on the contrast between their public image and private obsessions, each represented through the filter of his own experience.
Tom Burr’s work has been collected by major museums internationally, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, New York; Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Zürich, Switzerland; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, California; mumok, Vienna, Austria; the New York Public Library, New York; Sammlung Grässlin, St. Georgen, Germany; Sammlung Verbund, Vienna; Ludwig Museum, Cologne, Germany; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; FRAC, Champagne Ardenne, France; FRAC, Nord-Pas de Calais, France; Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, Maryland; the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Israel, among others.
"Sedimental" is curated by Humberto Moro, SCAD curator of exhibitions.
The exhibition is free for all museum members, and SCAD students, faculty and staff with a valid SCAD Card. Open to the public with the cost of museum admission.
