This cross-generational exhibition features media ranging from painting and sculpture to video and photography, showcasing some of the diverse influences and expressions that have developed within cross-cultural artistic practices in the last century. Additionally, "Rehearsals" dovetails the unique and surprising correlations between audible expressions and visual languages in art.
Selected artists from the Evans Collection include Romare Bearden, Richmond Barthé, Beauford Delaney, Aaron Douglas, Clementine Hunter, Jacob Lawrence and Alma Thomas.
Selected contemporary artists include John Bankston, Sanford Biggers, Candice Brietz, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, Satch Hoyt, Jennie C. Jones, Rashaad Newsome, Dario Robleto, Jean Shin, Los Carpinteros and Xaviera Simmons.
