The SCAD Museum of Art presents a new site-specific installation by acclaimed artist Michael Lin. Known for his large-scale painting interventions based on vibrantly patterned Taiwanese textiles, Lin’s practice has been hailed as a new approach to contemporary art and the museum through the creation of immersive and experiential environments. His installations challenge notions of art as object based, and skew expectations of the exhibition as an event. Lin expresses interest in relations — firstly between himself as an artist to his environment, and secondly between his work and the audience.

The hand-painted ornamental design of Lin’s “Untitled (Clockwise)” installation is appropriated from a bed sheet and draws on vernacular visual elements in his work. The work is an attempt to create an intimate space that envelops the audience, a painting as a space to occupy. As with previous work, his intervention elevates everyday ornamental design to high art by bringing it into the hallowed space of the museum.

Daily admission to the exhibition is free for all SCAD students, faculty, staff and museum members. The exhibition is open to the public with the cost of museum admission.
