Join the SCAD Museum of Art and SCAD art history professor Kerry Brown, Ph.D., for Art Wise: Educators on Exhibitions, a new series illuminating academic perspectives on current SCAD Museum of Art shows. For this inaugural session, Brown expounds on the glitchy, botanical world of artist duo Thukral and Tagra to discuss their project Arboretum.
Exposing the juxtaposition of digital and natural elements in the artists’ work, Brown unravels the visual layers of their complex painting practice. A specialist in South Asian art, she further contextualizes these concepts by highlighting the dichotomy of the region, presenting images in which ancient and contemporary elements coexist: modern glass towers amid centuries-old temples. A SCAD Museum of Art student docent continues the discussion and offers additional insights on a guided tour of the gallery. An optional — but encouraged — 30-minute workshop on botanical photo collage concludes the experience.
This event is presented as part of the series Art Wise: Educators on Exhibitions, which invites scholastic dialogue on SCAD Museum of Art exhibitions through the expertise of SCAD faculty members from myriad disciplines. Incorporating show-specific lectures, tours, and workshops, the series extends the classroom to the transformative atmosphere of the museum’s galleries, fostering deeper connections to contemporary artists and designers.
This event is free and open to the public.
