About the artist
Joshua Leonard’s talent for drawing was evident at a very young age and inspired him to pursue a degree in animation. This accomplishment was not an easy undertaking, as he went from being a homeless Hurricane Katrina victim to graduating at the top of his class. As a character designer at Disney Television Animation and an executive producer at Hillman Grad Productions, Leonard focuses on creating compelling characters that are diverse, inclusive, and drive the story. He is the creator of the shows Team Supreme and Tha Curriculum and has also developed character designs for 9 Story Media Group, The Jim Henson Company, Illumination, Sony Immersive Music Studios, Netflix Animation, Nickelodeon, Baobab Studios, Drake, Dyme Lyfe, Black Skullz, and more. Born in Miami, Fla., he lives and works in Atlanta.

Established in 2011, SCAD MOA’s Walter and Linda Evans Center for African American Studies celebrates the imaginative breadth and expressive legacy of African American art and culture. Through experimental public programs, immersive workshops, riveting lectures, and topical symposia, the Evans Center immerses students and community members in the rich tapestry of Black expression.
