Discover the fantastical world of Marcel Dzama with comedian Amy Sedaris
Amy Sedaris as Marcel Dzama
When

Comedian Amy Sedaris leads an eclectic conversation on the work of artist Marcel Dzama, kicking off SCAD deFINE ART 2021. The artist’s son interviews Sedaris, who plays the role of Dzama. After the dialogue, Dzama joins associate curator Ben Tollefson to premiere the artist’s exhibition An End to the End Times at the SCAD Museum of Art, followed by a Q&A.

Based in Brooklyn, Dzama creates works rooted in performativity and storytelling. Widely known for paintings and drawings that exude a storybook charm, while simultaneously confronting viewers with timely political realities, he mines stylistic references ranging from canonical art historical movements like European Surrealism to the vernacular of Soviet Agitprop illustrations. His fantastical figures don costumes and masks as they gallivant through stage-like settings, becoming fodder for the exploration of politics, sexuality, theatricality, and psychology, among other subjects.

This event is open to the public. It is presented on the occasion of SCAD deFINE ART 2021, as part of the SCAD virtual series Guests and Gusto.
