On the occasion of his exhibition A Boy From Texas, Robert Wilson — one of the world’s foremost theater and visual artists — joins gallerist Cristina Grajales for this virtual talk.
Renowned for his masterful use of light in theatrical productions across the world’s most important theaters, Wilson has often cited the expansive horizons of the Texas landscape as a source of inspiration for his stage environments. His earliest performance works were actions of extreme duration, “silent operas” with no words, few sounds, and slow, exacting movements: theatrical movement at the pace of nature. An homage — in part to his childhood in Texas; part to early theater works and installations developed in rural America — A Boy From Texas reflects on concepts of nature, fragility, and rebirth.
With more than 20 years of experience, Cristina Grajales is an art and design tastemaker. In 2001, after a decade-long tenure as director of 1950 Gallery in New York, she founded Cristina Grajales Gallery, which has since established itself as a forerunner in the cultural scene. The gallery represents emerging contemporary designers working in a range of fields, cultivating work that pushes, blurs, or erases the line between art and design.
