Join SCAD MOA for a celebration of new exhibitions featuring work by Gisela Colón, Johana Moscoso, and Maria Nepomuceno, with refreshments inspired by the artists’ heritages. Prior to the celebration, gain insight on the exhibitions directly from the artists at a gallery talk with Moscoso at 2 p.m. and a lecture by Colón at 5:30 p.m.
Informed by the rich biodiversity of her home island of Puerto Rico, Colón’s work invokes the concept of the “feminine divine” as a method of creating space for underrepresented peoples. In her artistic practice, Moscoso maps her family’s migratory journeys using ancestral knowledge integral to her personal and cultural histories. Nepomuceno, a Brazilian artist based in Rio de Janeiro, incorporates the creative traditions of her country’s Indigenous communities, creating a dialogue across space, time, and cultures.
